A fire broke out in a car workshop on Kalbakken in Oslo on Monday afternoon. As a result of the fire, heavy smoke also developed in the area.
– We encourage those who experience an influx of fire smoke to close windows and possibly turn off ventilation if possible, urged the Oslo police at X.
The building is close to the road, and Østre Aker vei was blocked in both directions for a period. The main line between Oslo S and Grorud is also closed, as the track runs close to the scene of the fire.
Just after 6 p.m., the road is reopened in one direction – towards Oslo.
The duty commander of the Oslo Fire and Rescue Service, Eirik Fredriksen, stated at 16.45 that the first fire crews were in place and had started the extinguishing work.
He then stated that the fire was fully developed and had taken hold of the building’s roof. No one has been reported injured.
Just before 5.30 pm there were long queues along the road, while the fire crews worked hard to get the fire under control.
– We have been inside with smoke divers and have been helped by an extinguishing robot from Follo, said Fredriksen.
– Do you have any indications of where the fire started?
– We understand that the fire started closest to the railway. It has not yet spread to the entire building, and we are now working to attack the fire from several sides.
Police operations manager Brian Skotnes states that information about gas cylinders in the building contributed to the road and lane being closed.
– This fire has caused major traffic problems, says Skotnes.
Shortly after 6 p.m., the 110 central informs that the fire has been extinguished, but that the fire service will work on subsequent extinguishing for some time to come.
