The sedan, registered in Delaware, then attempted to continue into a closed intersection, before officers surrounded the vehicle, pointing their weapons at the driver.

Security personnel rushed the president into a waiting vehicle, in which his wife was already seated, before he was quickly taken back to his home.

His schedule was otherwise unaffected by the incident. “The president and first lady are doing well,” a White House official said.
