GAZA, KOMPAS.com – The Israeli army discovered the largest Hamas tunnel ever in the Gaza Strip on Sunday (17/12/2023).
According to an AFP photographer’s report, the location is only a few hundred meters from the main border.
Because it is so large, small vehicles can fit into the tunnel.

“The underground route is part of a wider branching network that stretches for more than four kilometers and is within 400 meters of the Erez border,” the Israeli army said in a statement, as reported by AFP on Monday (18/12/2023).
It was explained that the tunnel was built at a cost of millions of dollars and took years.
The construction project is led by Mohamed Yahya, the brother of Hamas chairman Yahya Sinwar who is believed to have masterminded the attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023.
The long corridor has a drainage system, electricity, ventilation, sewerage, and communication networks and rails.
The floor is made of compacted earth, the walls are reinforced concrete, and the entrance is a metal cylinder with a thickness of 1.5 centimeters.
The Israeli army also showed video footage from Hamas of the atmosphere inside the tunnel.
Namely, there is a small construction vehicle driven into the tunnel as well as a large temporary warehouse filled with precast concrete to cover the walls.

The workers made the tunnel by digging underground and using simple electrical equipment.
Inside the tunnel, Israeli soldiers found many weapons stored and ready to be used in battle.
