The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Government of Andalusia, through the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Regulation and the Andalusian Health Service, launched a ‘flash’ vaccination campaign against flu and covid last week. -19 in the eight Andalusian provinces. For two days (12 and 13), citizens of the groups called to protect themselves from these diseases could go without an appointment to their health center to receive one or both doses.
Health considers that the experience has been a “success”, with nearly 50,000 Andalusians (48,406) vaccinated. So much so, that they plan to repeat it, this time, for three days. Thus, as indicated by the Junta de Andalucía, on the 19th, 20th and 21st this same formula will be activated in the outpatient clinics of the autonomous community. Regarding the province of Almería, according to the data transferred by the Ministry, 6,007 vaccines were dispensed, 3,730 for flu and 2,277 for covid-19. These figures allow us to conclude that more people are vaccinated only against the first disease and that around 1,500 fewer Almerians opted for double vaccination in these two days.
It was the second day without an appointment, however, the one that concentrated the greatest number of requesters for one or both medications. On the 12th, Tuesday, 1,743 flu vaccines and 948 Covid vaccines were injected at the different points available in the province while on the 13th, Wednesday, there were 1,987 and 1,329, respectively.
Throughout Andalusia, for its part, on the first day without an appointment, 23,701 Andalusians were vaccinated against the flu, 57.52% more than a usual day, and 13,904 against covid-19, 69.44% more. The second day, for its part, brought together 24,705 Andalusians, who were immunized against the flu, 64.2% more than a usual vaccination day, and 17,801, against covid-19, 115.85% more.
From the Ministry of Health, given these results, they expressed their gratitude to Andalusian society for their “commitment and responsibility” to protect themselves against these viruses, and, in the same way, they recognized the work of health professionals so that these campaigns develop normally.
They remember from Health that the vaccine “is the most efficient and safe tool to avoid serious illness and hospitalization.”
123,000 vaccinated
With all this, the total number of flu vaccines administered in Andalusia to date amounts to 1,536,614 and, against covid-19, 996,848. Likewise, the coverage of flu vaccinated people over 60 years of age has increased two points since last Monday to 51.7% and the coverage against covid has risen one and a half points to 37.6% throughout the autonomous community.
Regarding Almería, there are already 123,416 citizens vaccinated against flu since the campaign began in October, as well as 75,017 vaccinated against covid-19. The rate of those over 60 years of age protected against the flu, for its part, in the province rises to 51.9% while, 37.4% of this population group is protected against covid.
