The blogger questioned that the annotation of the word “play” in the “Xinhua Dictionary” is composed of the word “playing with women”, the annotation of the word “bie” is “”a pistol is tied to the waist”, and the word “burden” is used in the sentence “the child has become a burden” , all suspected of violating the “Publication Management Regulations”.

“Teach and Educate A” certified as a “high-quality creator in the field of secondary teacher education” and multiple self-media posts stated that the accusers Qian Yi and Liu Zhencheng are associate professors.

Qian Yi (real name Qian Manqiu) graduated from Hunan University of Science and Technology with a master’s degree. He once served as an associate professor at Changsha Medical College and a teacher at a higher education institution in Hunan Province. In 2004, he applied to be an English teacher at Changsha Medical College; in 2014, he obtained the title of associate professor. On August 27, 2017, the labor relationship with the school was terminated.

After the video of Qian Yi and Liu Zhencheng suing “Xinhua Dictionary” was released, it immediately aroused heated discussion among netizens. Some netizens accused the “Xinhua Dictionary” writing team, editor-in-chief, review team and publishing house of dereliction of duty and malfeasance, while others expressed opposition.

The famous Weibo V “Emotional Worry Monk” posted: “Xinhua Dictionary” is most frequently used by primary school students. If they see it, play: play with women, tired: the child has become a burden, don’t: there is a pistol in the waist. It will give them bad ideological guidance.

“If a child asks their parents what “playing with women” means? I believe many parents will be blushing and don’t know how to answer. With such questions, the children will discuss among their classmates, which will slowly cause adverse effects and affect their psychology. healthy.”

“Furthermore, if a child sees an introduction like “Children are a burden”, they will subconsciously think about their parents’ attitude towards them, whether they didn’t give them a lot of love, didn’t try their best to raise them, and whether they are in the eyes of their parents. It’s just a burden…”

On January 21 this year, Qian Yi won the case against the People’s Education Press for publishing poisonous textbooks. Subsequently, the relevant personnel were dealt with. The People’s Education Press admitted that the controls were not strict and the review was just a formality.

“Xinhua Dictionary” is compiled by the Linguistics Institute of the Academy of Social Sciences of the Communist Party of China. It has been revised more than 10 times since its release in 1953.

The “misogynistic” controversy also occurred last year. In May last year, the 11th edition of Xinhua Dictionary attracted public attention due to the word “playing with women”. Some netizens believe that the term is insulting to women, while others believe that the reference book simply explains the usage of the phrase.

In addition, on June 1 last year, the Guangxi Quanzhou County Procuratorate, in conjunction with the County Education Bureau and other departments, conducted a special inspection of relevant primary school textbooks and children’s books, requiring all bookstores to review and clean up each book one by one. The inspection also found that some bookstores sold some “Xinhua Dictionary” and children’s books had vulgar content and illustrations, and were ordered to be removed from the shelves for rectification.

However, on June 5 last year, the Guilin Municipal Procuratorate issued a document stating that a special inspection jointly conducted by the Quanzhou County Procuratorates contained improper performance of duties, and it had been ordered to make rectifications.
