Feyenoord is diametrically opposed to the shareholders of De Kuip, who work together in the Feijenoord Stadium Shareholders Association (VASF). The stake is the seat right in the stadium that is linked to the share.
Feyenoord believes that if shareholders decide not to attend certain matches, they should be able to sell the empty seats. This has led to a procedure being initiated whereby shareholders must claim their seats in advance for each match. If they do not do this, the club has the right to still sell the places in the form of individual tickets. 1908.nl previously reported that Feyenoord is combating the ‘no-show’ among supporters. This measure seems to be part of that.
However, the VASF has reacted strongly to the decision and is threatening legal action, as recently emerged during the General Meeting of Shareholders of Stadion Feijenoord NV. The interest group, which acts on behalf of 43% of the stadium shares, has now sent a demand letter to the club in which the infringement of the right to sit is raised. According to the VASF, acquired rights are undermined when shareholders have to claim their own seats in advance. Reportedly, these places should always be available, regardless of whether they are used. Moreover, the method was introduced without notification to all shareholders, which has led to annoyance.
Through Pieter Smorenburg, the club reacted irritated about the VASF’s position. During the shareholders’ meeting it turned out that Feyenoord’s financial director clashed sharply with VASF chairman Conré Oostrom on this point. Smorenburg clearly indicated that he was disappointed with the way the VASF deals with the professional football branch. However, the interest group states that it has a share agreement with Stadion NV and not with the club.
The parties involved have indicated that they will consult with each other about the situation that has arisen. The shareholders have already been approached with an interim solution for the upcoming KNVB Cup match against FC Utrecht. Those who have not registered for this competition in time can contact the Service & Ticketing department no later than Monday, December 18. A covered seat is assured, although it must be taken into account that this may not be the usual seat.
