Taiwan Railway’s fares have been frozen for nearly 30 years. Du Wei, chairman of the quasi-state-owned Taiwan Railway Corporation, said in an exclusive interview with the United Daily News that the Taiwan Railway Corporation’s fare adjustment plan will be released early next year and will be submitted to the board of directors for discussion in March or April next year. It will then be submitted to the transportation department for approval. The Ministry of Finance and the Executive Yuan believe that if approved, there will be an opportunity for adjustment as early as the second half of next year. As for whether to increase the amount in one go or to increase it in stages, we still need to discuss it further.

However, the Taiwan Railway Union estimates that the number of corporatized employees will reach 2,000 to 3,000, and the Spring Festival transportation will be the first to bear the brunt. In this regard, Du Wei said that from January to June next year, about 990 people will apply to resign. It is estimated that there will not be too many people applying for resignation in the future. It is estimated that about 1,100 to 1,200 people will resign.

Du Wei said that during the Taiwan Railway Administration era, the 17,360 personnel positions that were not enough were filled. After the company was reorganized, they could respond to the recruitment. The first batch of Taiwan Railway Company employees is expected to be recruited in February and March next year, and it is estimated that 80 people will be recruited during the summer vacation next year. ○People can go online and employees with good performance can expect to receive up to 4.4 months at the end of the year. In other words, judging from the current manpower figures, not only will there be no reduction in work during the Spring Festival, but the transportation capacity will definitely increase.

Du Wei said that the Taiwan Railways Board of Directors will establish a safety management committee. In addition to setting up an operations safety department within the company organization, it will also set up four business offices in the north, center, south and east to speed up response and establish a safety culture that eliminates concealment.

Du Wei also revealed that the railway restaurant kitchen on the first floor underground of Taipei Station will be built into an international-class passenger service center in the future. It will be completed in two years at the earliest. A large central kitchen will also be built early next year to increase the Taiwan Railway’s lunch box production capacity to about 20,000 units. , which will be launched as early as the end of next year.
