Finland and Italy Call for Removal of Restrictions on Single-Use Packaging and Reuse Targets

Finland and Italy, in a joint statement released by diplomats to Euronews this week, have called on governments preparing a position on the Packaging and Reuse Regulation (PPWR) to oppose strict restrictions on single-use packaging as well as proposed re-use targets.

In the document, both countries call for the lifting of reuse targets and the removal of all restrictions on single-use packaging.

In particular, Finland and Italy want restrictions on single-use packaging, especially food and drink packaging, to be removed at next week’s Environment Council meeting in Brussels, where EU ministers plan to conclude political talks on PPWR, a call in line with a decision by the European Parliament on 22 November At the plenary session held in Strasbourg, reduce the restriction of single-use packaging.
