Ubisoft has pulled the racing game The Crew from sale due to “upcoming server infrastructure and licensing restrictions.” Those who already own the game can still play it, but the servers will be shut down on March 31, 2024.
In a statement your Ubisoft: “We understand that this may be disappointing to players who still enjoy the game, but it has become a necessity due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing restrictions.”
The post continues: “Closing a game, and especially our first, is not something we take lightly. Our goal remains to provide players with the best action driving experience, and to fulfill this, we continue to deliver new content and support for The Crew 2 and the recently launched The Crew Motorfest.”
While it’s sad to see a game taken off sale, 2024 will mark 10 years since The Crew first launched on PC, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Ubisoft also launched the latest installment in the series, The Crew Motorfest, in September this year.
This spring review of The Crew Motorfest we wrote the following: “The Crew Motorfest is a competent and genuinely fun racing game that, while introducing some interesting activities and online features, struggles to live up to the heights and levels of immersive realism that separate the good in this sector of gaming from the really big.”
