Abdul-Jabbar’s (76 years old) career in the NBA lasted 20 years, most of which he spent with the Los Angeles Lakers, during which he won the title six times and was named MVP six times.
Morales said in a statement that Abdul-Jabbar will undergo surgery at a later time to treat his injury.
She continued, “Last night, while attending a concert, Karim suffered a fall, which led to a fracture in his hip. He will undergo surgery today.”
She added, “We all greatly appreciate all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department, who assisted Kareem at the scene, and the wonderful medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem right now.”
The statement did not mention the party that Abdul-Jabbar was attending when he fell.
Abdul-Jabbar, who is tall (2.18 m), began his basketball career with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969, and led them two years later to their first NBA title. He moved to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975, and played alongside playmaker Magic Johnson. In a golden era during which the Lakers won five titles in the 1980s, before his retirement in 1989.
The 19-time All-Star big man, known for his famous “skyhook” shot, broke the league’s all-time points record in 1984, before current Lakers star LeBron James broke it earlier this year.
