Gabon Marathon: the show is still there! -AGP

Libreville, December 16, 2023 (AGP) – The first day of competitions of the Gabon Marathon gave rise to the usual scenes of atmosphere, joy and sharing, thus confirming the reputation of this event which has been able to connect, over the editions , competitiveness and festivity, we noted.

The first major sporting event of international scope to host the country since the “liberation coup”, the Gabon Marathon welcomed the first wave of its participants, visitors and curious people this Saturday morning.

“This is the first time I have participated in the Marathon and I admit that it is impressive to see the number of people present,” admitted Cécile Ibinga, employee in a private clinic in Libreville.

The big day crowd invaded the official grandstand, located in the city center of the Gabonese capital, very early this Saturday morning to take the start of the three races on the program.

In this din intertwined with sounds, entertainment, dances and warm-ups, some participants, with smiles on their faces, take the opportunity to take photos and other souvenirs to mark their presence and share it with loved ones, via social networks.

Others, on the other hand, display much more closed faces, a sign that there are much more festive objectives hidden under the boot.

In this agitation, we come across the octogenarian Bouanga Germaine, adorned in national colors, still as enthusiastic and impatient at the idea of ​​taking the train of a race of which she has become one of the striking and even inspiring figures despite his advanced age. Because it is also the hallmark of the Gabon Marathon, connecting the old and new generations around the same passion and in a friendly atmosphere.

“We came here to experience the 9th edition of the Marathon in real time. In previous years I watched the race on television,” assured Glenn, standing just in front of the security gates separating the runners from the spectators.

“I am delighted with the mobilization of women like me around this sports festival. I am also delighted to see many women lined up for the 5km. This shows our support for the fight against female cancers,” emphasized Grace Eyi.
