Drama in the Premier League. Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch after falling ill in the 14th minute of the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, out of home. The player was promptly attended to, and the match was “abandoned”, in league terms. Players from both teams left the field. Bournemouth’s medical team told the English press that Lockyer is “alert and responsive”.

Luton manager Rob Edwards rushed onto the pitch immediately upon seeing his captain passed out on the pitch so the match was stopped. The broadcast of the game changed the focus and did not show images of the service. After about five minutes, the athletes from both teams left the field.
Lockyer received treatment for around 10 minutes on the Vitality Stadium pitch and was removed. In the images, it is possible to see that the doctors were carrying a defibrillator. The Premier League considers the match “abandoned” due to the medical incident and ended with a score of 1-1.

The two teams and the Luton Town coach reappeared on the field, some time after Lockyer went to the changing rooms, and applauded the fans who remained in the stadium until the end. Rob Edwards, visibly emotional and crying, walked around the lawn.

The apprehension is greater after Lockyer went through a similar episode in the game that granted Luton Town access to the Premier League, in May. The defender also passed out on the pitch after a sudden increase in his heart rate.
He watched the confirmation of his team’s qualification to English football’s elite from a hospital bed. Lockyer, who is part of the Welsh national team, underwent surgery at the time and was cleared to return to football.
