Khlebushek scored an assistant double.
The Rangers faced Anaheim at home, having suffered three losses in four previous matches, and the match against the floundering Ducks (four losses in a row) was a chance to improve the situation. According to tradition, one of the main heroes of the match (5:1) was Russian Blueshirts striker Artemy Panarin, who scored an assist double. These two assists helped the Russian return to the top three scorers of the season: Khlebushka now has 41 (16+25) points in 28 meetings.
The Californians opened the scoring in the middle of the first period, but this was the only success for the Ducks. Chris Kreider tied the game three minutes later, and only the Rangers scored after that. Kreider’s first goal was the 500th point in the career of the 32-year-old American, who is the Rangers’ leading sniper this season (16 goals).
Panarin took part in Kreider’s second goal, which was scored on the power play, and in the third period he scored with a pass to Mika Zibanejad, who was also successful in gaining the advantage. These two assists brought Panarin closer to Mark Rogers’ club record in the 1983/1984 season: this is the record for the longest scoring streak in home matches from the start of the season. For Rogers it lasted 15 matches, for Artemy the streak is 13 matches and has a chance to continue.
Special mention should be made of Rangers goalkeeper Jonathan Quick, who scored his ninth win in 10 matches for the Blueshirts. He reflected 29 shots out of 30 and in some moments frankly saved the team – Igor Shesterkin has something to think about.
