The plan to have the Olympic competitions in, among other things, bobsleigh and luge be moved from Italy to a neighboring country is now rejected from the Italian side. Italy’s sports minister rules out such an option and instead wants to see “an Italian solution”, according to various media reports.

– We will find a solution to the problem and it will be Italian. The bobsleigh track will be in Italy and we have to be patient but there will be a solution in January, Andrea Abodi is reported to have said.

Milan/Cortina will host the Winter Olympics in three years, but earlier this fall, the Italian Olympic Committee’s chairman, Giovanni Malagó, announced that a move of the competitions was in order and, for example, Innsbruck in Austria or St. Moritz in Switzerland would be considered as hosts among other the bobsled competitions. The idea was from the beginning to build a new facility on the same site where the competitions were held in connection with the 1956 Winter Olympics, but as the costs have been revised up, no one has wanted to take on the task.
