Controversy at Bulgarian National Radio as Interview with Russian Ambassador Banned

The program board of the Bulgarian National Radio has banned the broadcast of the interview with the Russian ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova, which was planned for today. This became clear from a Facebook post by radio host Peter Volgin. The information that he recorded an interview with her on Friday was confirmed to “24 Chasa” by BNR.

“Delyan Peevski objected to the participation of Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova on the National Radio. The program board of the BNR banned the broadcast of the interview with her. The managers said that there was no connection between the two things. What do you think?” writes Volgin.

On Friday, the ambassador’s visit was advertised on Volgin’s Facebook page. A wave of public discontent followed. The interview with Mitrofanova was indeed recorded this afternoon in BNR, they confirmed to “24 Chasa”. Apparently, someone was afraid that if she was a live guest tomorrow, there would be excesses.

The chairman of the DPS group in the parliament, Delyan Peevski, sharply condemned Mitrofanova’s invitation to give an interview to the BNR.

“I express my great concern at the announcement of the upcoming visit of the Russian ambassador on the air of one of the most influential public media – BNR.

It is this representative of the Kremlin regime against whose unprecedented arrogance and disregard for the rule of law we have repeatedly objected to. A representative of an aggressor state which, in addition to an armed war against Ukraine, is waging a hybrid war against the EU and NATO. Ambassador Mitrofanova, who closes an Orthodox church, edifies and disputes the decisions of our country and the EU,” says Peevski in his position, distributed by the party’s press center.
