Just when the winter temperatures begin to be felt strongly in the city, an initiative is underway to collect coats for the children of asylum seekers.
Yesterday, Commissioner of the Office of Immigrant Affairs Manuel Castro and Vice President of NYC Health and Hospitals, Ted Long, presided over the distribution of coats that seeks to help more than 6,000 children living in the Humanitarian Center of the Roosevelt Hotel.
Commissioner Manuel Castro spoke about the scope of this campaign.
“Today we are delivering more than 6,200 coats to asylum-seeking minors and their families who are in our care and this winter season and as we celebrate Christmas, we want to ensure that our new New Yorkers have the support they need in these seasons.”
Financial donations for the coat drive continue through December 22. For more information you can access the website secure.givelively.org
