From 2026, Audi wants to start Formula 1 with a works team. The chassis then comes from the Sauber racing team. The team will have an interim name for the next two years.
Before the takeover by Audi, the Swiss Formula 1 team Sauber was given a new name. The traditional racing team will compete next season and also in 2025 as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber. The Swiss announced this.
The chassis for the coming season is again called the KICK Sauber C44, named after a video live streaming service that bought the corresponding rights.
The racing team most recently bore the name Alfa Romeo, but the name sponsor is withdrawing after five years. Audi will take over the majority of the Sauber team until 2026 and will then compete in Formula 1 as a works team.
The engine is built in Neuburg an der Donau, the chassis comes from the Sauber team in Hinwil. Audi has long since taken over shares in the Swiss racing team. However, the Sauber name can temporarily be found in Formula 1 again. Peter Sauber founded a team of the same name in 1970 and celebrated his debut in Formula 1 in 1993. The Finn JJ Lehto drove the C12 to fifth place at the opener in South Africa.
