– The Christmas present was for someone in the family, but now I guess I have to find something new, says Karen Jeremiassen from Trondheim to Dagbladet.
Christmas Eve is fast approaching and many people are probably in the process of buying the last Christmas presents. Jeremiassen was one of those who came close to being ready, but now she has to find a new gift for one of the family members.
Melis shock: The price doubled
Long gone
The NOK 500 gift that she had ordered online was stolen straight from her mailbox, she says.
– I received a message at 06.15 that the package had been delivered, but when I went out at 06.45 it was gone, says Jeremiassen to Dagbladet.
Nidaros mentioned the matter first.
When Jeremiassen checked the delivery on the app, it said that the package had been delivered at 11.30pm the night before. She was not notified that it had been delivered that evening, she claims.
– If I had known it was coming the night before, I would of course have picked it up, she says.
Want to “scrape” Christmas: – Should be able to choose
– Very annoyed
At first Jeremiassen did not understand what had happened. She thought maybe it could be a mistake. All the pieces fell into place when she checked the local Facebook group for the area where she lives.
– Several had posted posts warning of possible thefts. Then I realized what had happened, she says.
The fact that the gift was stolen is boring, Jeremiassen thinks, but she is primarily concerned that many people experience theft from mailboxes – both at Christmas time and at other times of the year.

– You hear about it every day. You get very annoyed, and it’s terrible that it’s not common practice among people. It’s a bad culture and it’s only getting more and more, she says.
She also thinks of those who may not be able to afford Christmas presents.
– There are many people with bad advice now, and it is sad to think that people who have had a hard and tough time before can experience this, she says.

Called the police
Jeremiassen says she called the police straight away when she noticed the package had been stolen. Dagbladet has contacted the police in Trøndelag for a comment, but they have not yet responded to our inquiry.
To Nidaros the crime watch service says that parcels that are stolen from postboxes are a “well-known phenomenon around Christmas time”.
– You have got this system of delivering packages the night before, and that they are picked up the following day. When people know about it, some people are more likely to check mailboxes, says the head of the crime watch.
To Nidaros says the crime watch leader that he experienced having packages stolen from his mailbox on the same day as Jeremiassen.
Turns around after crisis meeting: Remains standing
– Not the way we want it
She understands that it can be tempting for thieves, but also thinks that it is a frightening development.
– You hear about it all the time. I think the thieves change areas when they finish robbing one place.
Jeremiassen does not know who stole her Christmas present, but has been told that someone observed a car in the neighborhood at the time in question.
– I hope that someone has a guilty conscience. We need a change in attitude and greater consequences for those who steal, because that’s not how we want it here, she says.
