Carlos Alcaraz Wins ATP Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award

The Spanish Carlos Alcaraznumber two in the world, won the sportsmanship award given annually by the ATP and which recognizes fair play, professionalism and integrity, both on and off the court.

Alcaraz has been voted by his own colleagues as the winner of this award, which is named after Stefan Edberg and that in the past they won Roger Federeron 13 occasions, and Rafael Nadalfive times.

The Murcian, who succeeds the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the list of winners, is the fourth Spaniard to win this award, after Pepe Higueras, in 1983, Alex Corretja, who won it in 1996 and 1998, and the aforementioned Nadal.

“I am very happy to win this award. Especially because my teammates on the circuit have chosen me. It means a lot to me. Thank you all,” said Alcaraz

For Alcaraz, it is also the third ATP award he has received in his career, after emergence of the year in 2020 and most improved player in 2022.

In the 2023 season, Alcaraz won his second Grand Slam, at Wimbledon, the Indian Wells and Madrid Masters 1,000, the Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Queen’s tournaments, in addition to reaching the semifinals at Roland Garros and the US Open.
