Archaeologists in Poland found maps of the starry sky engraved on the surface of the rocks during the excavations in the ancient city of the Pueblo Indians, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The discovery was made in the Castle Rock Pueblo settlement on the Mesa Verde Plateau in the United States. The settlement belongs to the culture of the most mysterious Indian people in North America – the Pueblo. The main cultural feature of the Pueblo was city planning. The Indians built their cities in rocks.
The expedition found in the rocks near the settlement Pueblo petroglyphs, rock carvings with hunting scenes and images that the Indians used for astronomical observations.
“Spirals up to one meter in diameter are carved on the stone panels, which were used by the Pueblo people for astronomical observations and for determining the summer and winter solstice, as well as the spring and autumn equinoxes. They also have found images of warriors and shamans, which, according to researchers, date back to the 3rd century AD,” said the leader of the expedition, professor Radoslav Palonka.
