Inflation will slow down sharply in Italy over the next three years when the price index will see growth below 2%, the ECB’s target level. According to the latest estimates from the Bank of Italy, conducted as part of the ECB exercise, “consumer inflation would be equal to 6% on average this year and would decrease sharply thereafter, placing itself on average below 2% for the entire next three years”. The decline would mainly reflect “the sharp reduction in the prices of raw materials and intermediate products, only partly offset by the acceleration in wages”.
