In a joint operation with the investigation services from the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Cape Verde, the Spanish National Police seized more than five tons of cocaine on a speedboat in the Atlantic Ocean near Cape Verde. Four suspects have been arrested.
143 bales
A French naval ship detected the speedboat after it left the port of Praia in Cape Verde and tried to cross the Atlantic Ocean on its way to Europe. A batch of 5,132 kilos of cocaine was discovered on board. The coke was divided into 143 bales and, according to the authorities, would represent a street value of 330 million euros.
The four suspects arrested on board were transferred to a cell complex in Cape Verde, but will soon be transferred to Spain.
The international operation was coordinated by Interpol.
