Hungarian Foreign Minister Criticizes EU’s Decision to Start Negotiations with Ukraine

The EU’s decision to start negotiations with Ukraine has no practical meaning, since there is no plan for negotiations, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said in an interview with the Mandiner portal.

“This is a senseless decision, completely irrational. No one has any idea what the consequences might be, so this is a decision that is best avoided. It was clear that 26 countries could not be dissuaded from making this decision. It is also clear that this is not a practical solution, but only a principle one,” Szijjártó said.

According to him, “before, when the EU enlargement policy was still working normally,” simultaneously with the decision to start negotiations, a plan appeared on the content of these negotiations, documents that indicated the positions of each of the parties, “but now this is not the case.”

“So this is a fundamental decision that has little or no practical significance,” Szijjártó emphasized.
