The police received a report at 11.31pm that a woman had been hit by a tanker at the Strandkai terminal in central Bergen.

She was unconscious, according to the police. She has been taken to the hospital by ambulance. The police do not have a certain identity of the woman.

Operations leader Ole Marius Røttingen says that there were many witnesses in the area when the accident happened. The woman was found lying on the pavement.

– One of the theories is that there has been a tanker here that has had a job, driven onto the pavement and swerved. It may be in that connection that she suffered the injury, says Røttingen.

The car must have driven on

The car must have driven on after the incident, according to the police.

– We do not know whether the driver saw what happened, that he was aware that the woman had been hit, says the task leader.

The police ask drivers of such cars who have driven past the Strandkai terminal in the relevant time period to get in touch.

– We also want to get in touch with witnesses to the incident, says operations manager Stein Rune Halleraker.

Major damage

– We received reports from passers-by that a woman was lying injured on the pavement, says Røttingen.

At 00:05 he states that the police have control of a car and a driver, but they cannot say at the moment whether it is the right car.

The woman will have major injuries, as the police perceive it, but not life-threatening as it now appears.
