Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian Al-Ahly Club defeated its Saudi counterpart, Al-Ittihad Al-Jeddah, by three goals to one, on Friday, on the field of Al-Jawhara Al-Jawhara Stadium, in the second round of the 2023 Club World Cup.
The “Red Giants” team took the lead first in the 21st minute of the match and from the penalty mark, through player Ali Maaloul, then its rival “The Tigers” got the penalty kick in the 45th minute, but player Karim Benzema failed to translate it into a goal, ending the game. The Egyptian club led the first half by one goal.
In the second half, Al-Ahly Club succeeded in scoring two additional goals, through Hussein Al-Shahat and Imam Ashour, with two shots towards the net, in the 59th and 62nd minutes.
The French player scored the only goal for Al-Ittihad Jeddah Club in stoppage time with a shot inside the penalty area.
The “Red Giants” team qualified for the semi-finals for the fourth time in a row and the sixth in its history during its participation in the Club World Cup, the current edition of which is hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Al-Ahly club set a date with the Brazilian club Fluminense, the South American champion, in the next round.
