Unified Bundesliga Broadcast Rights on the Horizon: What Fans Need to Know

The German Football League (DFL) has taken note of the fans’ dissatisfaction and appears to be ready to reorganize the allocation of broadcast rights. This development could allow a provider to broadcast all Bundesliga games, which would significantly simplify the experience for fans.

Two subscriptions required for the complete Bundesliga experience

So far, Sky and Dazn have shared the broadcasting rights for the Bundesliga. While Sky traditionally shows the majority of the games, Dazn has become more important in recent years, especially by broadcasting the Friday and Sunday games. This division of rights means that fans need two subscriptions for the complete Bundesliga experience.

Charly Classen, head of sports at Sky, expressed optimism about a possible change in the situation. In a conversation with the news portal derwesten.de, he emphasized that the DFL takes fans’ frustration seriously and strives to improve the viewing experience.

Is Dazn giving its game rights back to Sky?

Alice Mascia, head of Dazn in Germany, was rather cautious in an interview with Spobis. She emphasized that Dazn is interested in the Bundesliga rights but will make an economically sensible decision.

There is a lot at stake for the fans. The rising costs and confusion surrounding different subscriptions have led to discontent among many. The DFL’s planned redesign of broadcast rights could mean a significant improvement for supporters. It may soon be possible to watch all games via one provider again.
