Pope Francis Postpones Visit to Ukraine Until End of War, Ukrainian Ambassador Says

“The Holy Father does not plan to visit Ukraine for the time being, because he wants to wait until his visit becomes a symbol of the end of the war,” Ukrainian Ambassador to the Holy See Andrii Yuras said in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.

“Pope Francis told me that he wants to wait until his visit becomes a symbol of the end of the war. Since the Holy Father does not see the possibility of fulfilling this task now, he wants to postpone the visit to a later time. As soon as the circumstances allow it, he will visit our country,” explained Andriy Jurash.

The ambassador pointed to the position of the Holy See in relation to the war in Ukraine and emphasized that its rhetoric has changed significantly over the past year. The Vatican is focusing on practical help for Ukrainians, especially the return of prisoners of war and kidnapped Ukrainian children taken to Russia and Belarus, the diplomat added.
