Russia Regrets Emerging Threat from Finland After Defense Agreement with U.S.

Moscow regrets the emerging threat from Finland, with which it previously had excellent relations. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Helsinki’s decision to sign a defense agreement with Washington.

“Undoubtedly, [это] will lead [к усилению напряженности между РФ и Финляндией]“said the Kremlin representative, TASS reports.

“We can only regret in this regard, because we had excellent relations with Finland and no one threatened anyone, there were no problems, no claims against each other, no one infringed on each other’s interests, there was mutual respect and so on,” – said Peskov.

Now, he continued, “when Finland has become a member of NATO and when NATO’s military infrastructure will already go inside Finland,” for the Russian side “this will pose a threat, quite obviously.”
