Community of Madrid Vaccinates Nearly 1,130,000 Against Flu and Covid-19

The Community of Madrid has vaccinated nearly 1,130,000 people against the flu, of which more than 45,500 are healthy children aged six months and older and under five years old, a group that has been included for the first time in this vaccination campaign. the Ministry of Health, which began on October 16 and will last until January 31.

In addition, 756,640 Madrid residents have received the booster dose against Covid-19, intended mainly for people over 60 years of age, chronically ill people, pregnant women, cohabitants of vulnerable people, health and social health personnel and professionals in essential services, according to the latest balance sheet provided by the department directed by Fátima Matute.

The General Directorate of Public Health has made a new call for these risk groups to be immunized against infectious agents, given that the incidence of influenza is still low in the region, with 18.01 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, one figure lower than the 25 established as the epidemic threshold this season.

Vaccination is key for inhabitants without pathologies between half a year and 59 months, a period of life in which infections occur very easily, avoiding complications for those affected and reducing the transmission of the virus.

Furthermore, in the last five weeks, the circulation of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes bronchiolitis, has been detected, which, as in other seasons, precedes the appearance and circulation of the flu.

Since last November, this public service has been provided at the Niño Jesús Children’s University Hospital by appointment, through the self-appointment website of the Community of Madrid, and without the need for it, on Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as in public maternity hospitals.
