Orange Alert Launched in Northern La Paz Due to Increase in Dengue Cases

The head of the Research Epidemiology Unit of the Departmental Service of La Paz (Headquarters), Gabriela Mamani, launched an orange alert this Wednesday due to the increase in dengue cases in northern La Paz.

“We are launching the orange dengue alert. The alert was launched yesterday to the different coordinations of the department so that everyone is with intensified epidemiological surveillance,” Mamani told the media.

The purpose of this alert is so that municipalities can register dengue cases and implement corresponding actions, in addition to activating epidemiological surveillance.

Mamani recommended that the affected municipalities start cleaning campaigns and remove plastics that can accumulate water in homes.

“All municipalities have to be aware that this can get worse and they have to start taking action,” he stated, according to Urgente.bo.

CLEANING

Dengue, according to the authority, is not eliminated only with fumigation, “before fumigation is carried out, it is necessary to eliminate breeding sites, throwing away tires, avoiding plastic bottles that can accumulate water. “Once the municipalities carry out a cleaning campaign, they must proceed to fumigate.”

Mamani explained that the most affected municipalities are Caranavi, Palos Blancos and Tipuani.

According to data provided by Mamani, in 2023 they registered a total of 1,582 cases of dengue and five deaths. “Of the 1,582, 1,168 cases have been without warning signs, 407 with warning signs, seven were serious.”
