President Andrés Manuel López Obrador appointed Lenia Batres as the new minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).
Lenia is the sister of the head of Government, Martí Batres, and before becoming Minister of the Court, she was Deputy Counselor for Legislation and Regulatory Studies of the Legal Department of the Federal Executive.
Batres is now part of the shortlist presented by the president, the counselor has held various positions in the government of Mexico City, formerly the Federal District, while López Obrador was the head of government.
She has been an advisor to the Secretariat of Urban Development and Housing, advisor to the Tlalpan Delegation, general director of Transportation Regulation in the Secretariat of Transportation and Roads, as well as general legal director of the Cuauhtémoc Delegation.
Batres Guadarrama studied Law at the Humanitas University, and also specialized in Criminal Law at the same institution. He completed a master’s degree in City Studies from the Autonomous University of Mexico City.
