The views of the leadership of Slovakia and NATO regarding the conflict in Ukraine do not coincide; Bratislava does not believe in its military solution. This was stated at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Stoltenberg and Fico met before the start of a two-day EU summit in Brussels.
In fact, there is a lack of any peace initiative, whether it comes from the European Union or NATO, the Slovak Prime Minister noted.
“We exchanged views with the NATO Secretary General regarding the conflict in Ukraine, and we have different views on this topic. I openly stated that neither I nor my government believe in a military solution to the conflict in Ukraine. We really lack any kind of peace initiative, and it doesn’t matter whether it comes from the European Union or NATO. Frankly, we cannot imagine that this war will continue for several more years and the only result will be hundreds of thousands of casualties on both sides,” Fico said.
