The European Council, at its meeting in Brussels on Thursday, supported the recommendation of the European Commission and granted Georgia candidate status for accession to the European Union.

Details: “The European Council has granted candidate status (for membership – Ed.) to Georgia,” Michel wrote on Twitter (X).
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili briefly commented on the decision. “Congratulations! The European Council has decided to grant Georgia candidate status for EU membership!” – he wrote on Facebook.
