Shane MacGowan (✝65) achieved great fame as the frontman of the band The Pogues. With the song “Fairytale of New York” he had an absolute Christmas hit. But tragic news recently became known: after years of health problems, the singer died as a result of acute pneumonia. In addition to his family and friends, numerous fans also gathered at his funeral. Now Shane’s final wish is revealed!
As Mirror reports, the “Streams of Whiskey” interpreter’s friends and family went to a pub after his funeral to celebrate his life. As a friend of the songwriter reveals, a surprise was waiting for the guests there: “I know that in the pub they went to, 10,000 euros for free beer had already been handed over the bar – that was Shane’s last wish.”
In honor of the deceased, a procession took place through Dublin before his funeral. Tens of thousands of fans gathered to pay their last respects. His widow was deeply moved by the outpouring of sympathy: “Shane hated funerals and refused to go, with a few rare exceptions. It’s incredible that so many people want to come to his funeral,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
