Netflix Reveals Their First Full Viewing Data For All Content On Their Platform

Netflix It shows that it wants to continue being the platform that offers more data on its views. In 2021 the American giant launched the Top-10, a tool that we have already criticized for being more about marketing than transparency since it only allows us to know figures of the 10 most viewed content in its Global ranking, it does not provide these data by country, and above all it requires the exercise of believing what the company, since they are internal figures and are not audited. But even then we defined it as “a step” forward, a way to at least get an idea of what was most successful, while all its competitors remain in absolute secrecy and obscurantism.

Netflix once again bets on live sports and announces ‘The Slam’, a stellar tennis duel with Nadal and Alcaraz

Now, Netflix for the first time it shares the audiences of all its content. Actually not all of them, but those who exceed a minimum of 50,000 hours viewed, the smallest parameter contemplated by the platform taking into account that this encompasses 99% of all its views, as the company itself clarifies. The result is this huge excel document which contains the results of exactly 18,214 productions, both original and acquired. That is, for the first time you can consult your total viewing data, regardless of whether or not the product manages to enter the Global Top-10, which until now was the only way.

There is another clarification about the data. Since 2021 Netflix also shares its historical ranking, where you can see the most viewed of his entire career in four categories: English-speaking films, non-English-speaking films, English-speaking TV and non-English-speaking TV. But in this new report, which they have called “What have we seen?”what it does is a “photo” of the first six months of the year. That is, Netflix shares the data of everything that has been seen between January 1 and June 30, 2023.

It is not going to be something specific, but the platform anticipates that will publish it twice a year, so it will continue to reflect the semiannual results. The trends it reflects are very similar to the Top 10, as can be read in the blog of the company. Netflix itself highlights, among others, the enthusiasm for non-English language stories, which generated 30% of all viewings in this period, and reinforces its commitment to local stories.

“Over time, we have become increasingly transparent about what people watch on Netflix”, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has declared, as reported by TheWrap. “When we started streaming 16 years ago, it was a pretty exotic proposition – there were no other streaming platforms that compared to us, and comparing live TV to Netflix on demand was like comparing apples to oranges.”

However, increased competition has made Netflix reflect, making it see that sharing its data allows it to stand above its competitors: “The unintended consequence of not having more transparent data about our commitment was that over time an atmosphere of distrust was created with producers, creators and the press about what was happening at Netflix,” Sarandos acknowledged. “It’s probably more information than is needed, but I think it creates a better environment for the unions, for us, for the producers, for the creators and for the press,” he added.

‘The Night Agent’, big winner on Netflix

It must be taken into account that while the Netflix Top-10 is ordered according to the total hours watched between the length of footage, this “What we have seen” only includes hours seen. That is, it favors productions with more hours of content available on the platform. The more chapters and the more hours, the more chances of accumulating in this classification and being higher in the ranking.

That said, the first semi-annual report crowns The night agent (The night agent) as a great winner and dominator. The American series starring Gabriel Basso and created by Shawn Ryan, which was especially a phenomenon in North America, accumulated 812 million hours watched.

Their advantage over the second-placed team is more than considerable. The second season of Ginny & Georgiathe American drama created by Sarah Lampert and starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, reached the 665 million hours watched.

Thirdly, to close the podium, we find the first foreign series. Is about The Glory (La Gloria)a South Korean drama that exploits the fictional phenomenon that established The squid game also addressing, in his case, the effervescent adolescent public. Its success translates into more than 622 million hours watched.

The top-10 is completed Wednesday (507 million), Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (503 million), season 4 of You (440 million), season 3 of The Queen of the South (429 million, also being the most viewed in Spanish on the platform), season 3 of Outer Banks (402 million), season 1 of Ginny & Georgia (302 million) and Fubar (266 million).

In cinema it is Motheran action film starring Jennifer Lopez, the most watched film on Netflix, with 249.9 million hours watched, appearing in fourteenth total position.
