Montenegro did not give up.
But Denmark advanced to the World Cup semi-finals in front of the home crowd in Herning.
Early favorites Denmark had a seven-goal lead a bit into the second half, but a strong final push from Montenegro had the Danish fans biting their nails.
With barely two minutes left, the gap was only two goals and Montenegro had the ball. But the Danes defended themselves and countered with a goal that extinguished Montenegro’s hopes.
Denmark won the match 26–24 and will face Norway in the semi-finals.
– It is gratifying. There was pressure on us because we knew we were favorites today. I think we handled the pressure, says Denmark’s national team captain Jesper Jensen TV2.
Denmark-Norway is played at 17.30 on Friday and Sweden-France starts at 21.00.
