Microsoft Delivers Promised Improvements with Windows 365 Integration and Booting Directly

Last year at the beginning of April, Microsoft promised several major improvements to make it easier to use Windows 365. This March, a separate client for Windows 10 and 11 was released, and from November, the desktops of the cloud computer will be integrated into the environment for switching between virtual desktops on the taskbar in Windows 11.

In May, the company announced that it was implementing the third of the package of promised innovations, namely booting directly into Windows 365. The idea is not complicated – on an ordinary physical machine with Windows 11, you will not have to log in to the account in the local Jedenátky first, but you will log in directly to the account in the cloud computer.

General availability from September

Since Microsoft introduces all news in stages, let’s summarize how it is with the boot. Public testing of booting directly into Windows 365 – Microsoft simply calls the function Windows 365 Boot – began in the already mentioned May.

During September, the Redmonds announced that they consider the technology finished. They set the requirements as follows:

  • a physical computer with Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise,
  • revision 22621.2361 and later,
  • administrative permissions in Microsoft Intune,
  • a license to operate a Windows 365 cloud computer.

From September, the solution, compared to the initial testing phase, supports Bluetooth, multiple cloud computers from which you can choose the default, Windows 365 Frontline, determining the basic level of security and the maximum number of connection interruptions in a set interval.

Fresh insider news

More news is being introduced by the development team now and only in the Insider program. Specifically in the Dev channel in Windows 11 build 23601. Dedicated boot mode to Windows 365 it allows you to boot into a cloud computer on a company machine that your employer has designated for you to use.

To log in, use passwordless methods of Windows Hello for Business depending on the configuration of the physical computer. At the same time, you can switch between different user accounts on the login screen. The system remembers the login name, the set wallpaper, etc. It could also be described that the login screen for Windows 365 will offer the usual convenience of logging in to local Windows 11.

In turn, businesses will add their logo and company name from Intune to the login screen in shared mode. Eventual network connection problems or with incomplete installation now login screen proactively signalsso you won’t find out about them until after a failed login attempt.


You will also disconnect from the cloud computer from the task view

If it takes longer to log in to the computer taught to work in the so-called first line, you will see more detailed information or an error message on the screen. Settings on the cloud computer contains a link to Settings on the physical host machine.

Microsoft continues to improve Windows 365 Switch, with which you can easily switch to a virtual computer – from the menu with virtual desktops. In the task view (Win+Tab) command in the context menu you end the connection to the cloud machine. So that you don’t get lost, a label is always shown for a moment when you switch – either local or cloud computer.

All the news described are available only if they are supported by both a local and a cloud computer. At the moment, this means that in both cases you have to run Windows 11 Insider Preview build 23601. The only thing missing from the previously promised features is the key ability to make the cloud computer run offline.
