Jose Mourinho discusses future and transfer window plans for Roma in press conference

Jose Mourinho expressed his wishes for the January transfer window, noting that he “doesn’t have to think” about his future. Roma.

The Giallorossi have already secured their place in the last 16 of the Europa League and will now look to secure top spot in Group G. Mourinho’s side are two points behind Slavia Prague, so they have to beat Sheriff and Hope against the Czech team loses against Servette.

Mourinho’s future at Roma is still uncertain as his contract expires at the end of the season and he expects some reinforcements to arrive in January to help in light of the various injuries.

Speech in a press conference about TMWMourinho first spoke about the importance of supporting Roma fans.

“What can I say, the day the stadium is not full will be a negative surprise for us. It’s nice that Olimpico is such a motivation. They don’t care if there’s a great team, there are no conditions. Tomorrow we have to win for them, for us, for football, because the game must be respected.

“Maybe nobody thinks Slavia will lose tomorrow, but anything is possible. And that’s why we have to win. There will be changes and there will also be constraints in the way we play.”

He addressed the changing nature of his team.

“That’s also a characteristic: being less strong on dead balls. A team with Smalling and Ibanez wins more defensive duels, is more dangerous on dead balls, and is the better team in the possession phase.

“Scoring goals after 21 to 23 passes is a quality that is fantastic for other teams, but if I do it, we won’t do it.” I read the statements of President Viola, who won 30 years ago, and 30 years ago it was no different than it is today.”

The Portuguese coach spoke about his hopes for the upcoming January transfer window.

“Our market will always be suitable for what we can do. I’m counting on it, I’m the coach. We are together, it’s not that I want one thing, Tiago wants another, the owners want another. We all want the same thing.

“I’m not jealous but City paid €80m for Philips and in January they will send him away and get someone else. We are a different reality. I would like to have one, two, three, four players, we all want to try to improve the team, become stronger, but we are having difficulties doing so.

“I’ll tell you honestly: if we sign a defender in the January transfer window, I’ll be happy. Do I want more? Of course, but that’s not possible. They are working on giving me options for a defender. If we then sign him, we will have difficulties for the UEFA list.

“I want people to understand this and be honest about the goals. It’s one thing to want, it’s another thing to be able to. All we can do is have a defense attorney who can help.

“Ndicka won’t be there from January 3rd, Mancini is just a yellow card away from suspension, Llorente fights back and keeps playing, Smalling won’t be there. “In the end it will be possible to do something.”

When asked why he didn’t speak to the media after the 1-1 draw, he was brief about Fiorentina at the weekend.

“We talked a lot. We didn’t stay silent.”

Mourinho was asked about his plans for the future with Roma.

“I don’t have to think. I have everything very clear in my head. I can only thank the fans and that doesn’t make me feel comfortable on the pitch. The team supports me on the pitch. Of course it makes me proud and emotional, but it’s something I don’t like.

“Don’t do it for me. It is the team that needs to feel the support there. But I thank them. When I was a ball boy and my dad was a coach, I often passed on information.”

He commented on the absence of Paulo Dybala.

“There is a game with Dybala and one without. With Dybala, Fiorentina were unable to apply pressure. Without Dybala there is no one else like him and now there will be no one, just like Romelu, and it will be a difficult situation because we cannot repeat that and we should do things differently.

“We have Belotti and Pellegrini who can be the second striker. We have El Shaarawy. It won’t be the same without Dybala.”

The Portuguese coach confirmed his plans to use a four-man defense.

“More or less yes, because Celik and Karsdorp play on the same side.”

He spoke about Renato Sanches’ problems and hardships this season.

“He will play tomorrow. He worked with us for two weeks in a row without playing. He didn’t play and work with us. I hope its intensity increases. The fear of a muscle injury is holding him back a bit. I hope the emotions of the game will pull him through to the other side.

“If he’s not ready, it’s difficult to play games at a high level and with high intensity. Tomorrow is important for him. He already knows that he is playing and has trained specifically for it. Tomorrow I expect 45-60 real minutes.”

Finally, Mourinho spoke about the injury situation at Roma.

“It’s hard for Leo, but there’s hope for Azmoun. Mancini has a big problem, his legs are not broken but he will play.

“He’s a different guy than someone who has a problem here (his little finger, editor’s note) and doesn’t want to play because it hurts there. He doesn’t have this problem. Pellegrini and Paredes are available for tomorrow, as is Cristante.”
