Marco Fu Excels in Professional Table Tennis Competition and Hopes to Inspire Success for Younger Players

[Tilu News]The Hong Kong Table Tennis Association held its 30th anniversary dinner today (12th). Marco Marco, who was awarded the “wild card” to play in the professional competition this year, said he was satisfied with the start of the season. Although overseas golfers have to face challenges such as adapting to the time difference, he still hopes to enjoy the feeling of a professional game.

Following the 2021/22 season, the World Table Tennis Federation once again awarded Marco a wild card this year to compete in the World Professional Tour in 2023/24 and 2024/25. Among them, he is currently the best among the 7 ranking events this season. The result is the top 32 of the international championship. “This year’s results are considered average, and my performance is pretty good. Although I lost a few games in the decisive game, I feel that the distance with my opponents has also become closer.” Marco revealed on Thursday (14th) He will leave for the UK to compete for the German Masters qualification, and the Macau Table Tennis Masters Invitational Tournament will be the last event of the year.

Marco said that it has been difficult to adapt to the rhythm of professional competition in recent years. After experiencing the epidemic and eye diseases, he also competed with a new mentality: “It is difficult to regain the mood of previous competitions. Maybe I took too long a break in the past few years, and now I feel a bit like a vacation. Some Competitions have also been canceled due to collisions, such as the Scottish Open. Because I want to play better in the competition in China at the same time, and as an overseas golfer, I have to adapt to time differences and other issues, so it is more difficult to regain the previous level, but I will try my best. Sometimes you are satisfied if you perform well in one or two games.” Marco, currently ranked 89th in the world, also said that ranking points belong to “more work, more gain”, so he has no intention of aiming to jump up the rankings.

Earlier, junior brother Zhang Jiawei won the runner-up in the men’s 15 red ball events at the IBSF World Championships, setting the best result for a Hong Kong golfer in 26 years since Marco Fu was crowned Queen in 1997. The 2022 World Games gold medalist later teamed up with Zheng Yuqiao to win the historic inter-team championship. Marco admitted that he was happy for them and wished Zhang Jiawei could achieve his goal of entering the professional game. As for snooker being expelled from the A-level qualification of the Sports Academy in 2025, Marco said that as a player, there are only so many things he can do, and he has tried his best to attract public attention in different ways, or hopes to have a positive effect with personal results.
