Figma launches its first piece of hardware under the name Figma Creator Micro. This colorful mechanical keyboard simplifies designers’ work with quick access to Figma tools and shortcuts.
Figma launches its first hardware, the Figma Creator Micro. That is a mechanical keyboard, also called a macropad, that should make the work of designers easier. The Creator Micro distinguishes itself from other macro pads by its ready-to-use configuration with Figma’s design software.
Collaboration with Work Louder
The realization of the Creator Micro is not only Figma’s merit. The company collaborated with Work Louder, a technology company specialized in macro pads. The big difference from other traditional macro pads is that it is already configured with the Figma software, which saves users a lot of work.
Rob Bye, product manager at Figma, emphasizes that the company has worked hard to make this configuration possible. This way the company distinguishes itself from the other macro pads and the thing becomes more than an existing device in a Figma guise.
Functionalities and design
The Creator Micro is equipped with twelve keys, each supporting up to four different functions, depending on the layer you have set the peripheral to. This gives you access to 48 different shortcuts. However, that’s not enough to cover all of Figma’s 150 keyboard shortcuts, but it does provide enough room to add the most commonly used functions.
In addition to these important functionalities, Figma also paid a lot of attention to the design. With the Creator Micro you receive three sets keycaps that can be attached to the mechanical switches. These three sets include a black set, another with colors, and a third with Figma software icons. Because the keys are so customizable, it is a challenge (especially at first) to remember what exactly they do. The sets of colors and symbols can help with this.
The idea of releasing a macropad has been around at Figma for some time. The Creator Micro is available for pre-order now for $139, with shipping expected in the first half of next year. We do not yet know a price in euros.
With the Creator Micro, Figma is once again in the news on its own. After all, reporting about the company is dominated these days by the takeover attempt by Adobe, which the EU is certainly not keen on.
