The huge fruit, with juicy and aromatic pulp, is a real vitamin factory for the body, providing vitality and energy throughout the day. Because it does not contain fat, pomelo is a reliable ally of the figure.
The largest fruit in the citrus family, which can weigh up to eight kilograms, is refreshing and filling and can be served as a morning snack. Contains vitamin C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B9 (folic acid), provitamin A, organic acids, proteins, minerals (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium and iron).
A quarter of pomelo (about 150g), doctors say, provides the daily requirement of vitamin C. Pomelo does not contain fat, it has only 72 calories/200g, which turns it into a reliable ally for the figure, especially thanks to the enzymes on which contains them, substances that increase the burning of fats, also known as “negative calories”.
“The fruit, like any citrus fruit, can be consumed to prevent and treat colds and flu and is a good immune system stimulant. It also prevents arteriosclerosis and balances blood pressure, thanks to its pectin content“, explains Marian Grigore, specialist in apiphytotherapy.
Specialists, however, point out that it should be used with caution in the case of babies. Even if they do not pose a risk of allergies, citrus fruits can cause hives, eczema or digestive problems due to their acidity.
“In particular, those with a citrus allergy should avoid pomelo, as it can trigger side effects such as hives, itching, skin rashes and digestive problems. If you experience these side effects or any other side effects after consuming the fruit, discontinue use immediately and consult your doctor. Like grapefruit, it can also interfere with certain medications, including some types of statins. If you are taking medication or have health conditions, be sure to talk to your doctor before adding pomelo to your diet“, says the specialist.
What benefits does it bring to the body?
Strengthens immunity. Like most citrus fruits, pomelo also has a high content of vitamin C. It strengthens the immune system, prevents stress and can prevent complications in the case of colds: lung infections or pneumonia. Vitamin C also helps prevent muscle damage, inflammation, cardiovascular diseases and even certain types of cancer.
Adjust the tension. One pomelo fruit contains approximately 400 mg of potassium per serving, which, like vitamin C, plays an essential role in heart health. This mineral regulates the level of blood pressure.
It slows down aging. The high content of antioxidants helps to slow down the aging process and protect the body against many types of diseases – including heart disease or cancer – by protecting the body against free radicals.
Rich in fiber. A pomelo diet is indicated when you want to lose weight quickly, but in a healthy way. This fruit has an 8% fiber content and a recommended daily intake of nutrients for both adults and children. A daily consumption of such fibers gives the body a feeling of satiety and helps the health of the intestines.
