What happened?

The match played between MKE Ankaragücü and Çaykur Rizespor in the 15th week of Trendyol Super League ended in a 1-1 draw. After the match, Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca came to the middle of the field and attacked the referee Halil Umut Meler. Mayor Koca entered the field after the Rizespor match and punched the referee of the match, Halil Umut Meler. Security forces surrounded Meler, who fell to the ground with the blow. Managers tried to calm down Faruk Koca, who collapsed for a while after this move and became ill. After the attack, Halil Umut Meler’s left eye was bruised. Halil Umut Meler was taken to the dressing room under intense security measures 10 minutes after his treatment.

MKE Ankaragücü Club apologized to the sports community for the events that occurred after their match against Çaykur Rizespor. In the statement made by the club, it was said, “As MKE Ankaragücü Club, we are saddened by the incident that occurred this evening. “All the suspects who went down to the field after the Ankaragücü-Çaykur Rizespor Trendyol Super League match on 11/12/2023 and were involved in the act of violence against the referee of the match, and the fans who went down to the field after the match, were found to be in violation of the Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports and “public charges” according to the Turkish Penal Code. Within the scope of the investigation initiated by our Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Suspects FK, Ş. Y.S. and K.C. Following his statements taken by our Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, he was arrested by the Ankara West Criminal Court of Peace on Duty for the crime of “injuring a public official in a way that caused a fracture in the sports field due to the public duty he performed.”
A judicial control decision was also requested in accordance with Article 6222 SY for the suspects RK, Ö.O.Ü, VD, who were determined to have gone onto the field at the end of the match from the video analysis.
The investigation continues meticulously.“
