Napoli and Braga Tied for Second Place in Champions League Group C

Napoli and Braga tied for second place behind Real Madrid in Group C.

That fight was decided by the reigning Italian champions even before half-time at home at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium. Serdar Saatci was unlucky to direct the ball into his own goal before ten minutes.

When Osimhen made it 2-0 in an odd as well as lucky way – with one foot he shot the other – the matter was almost over.

The result stood the game out.

National team midfielder Jens Cajuste came in after an hour of play.

Luka Modric scored a penalty for Real Madrid, already clear group winners, and just two minutes later Kevin Volland made it 1–0 for Union Berlin. The Germans’ goals then and there pushed Braga down to last place in the group.

Joselu’s equalizer for the “Meringues” saved Braga further. Real won 3–2 and all six games.

Real Sociedad managed a 0-0 draw against Inter to win their group ahead of last year’s finalists.

Salzburg and Benfica played a decisive match to reach the Europa League.

Benfica were beaten to win by at least two goals. Two came in good time, produced by Angel Di Maria and Rafa Silva but when Luka Sucic reduced it was the advantage of the Austrians. In the end, Benfica scored 3–1 and advanced by the narrowest of margins.

Arsenal had the opportunity to take the fifth victory of the autumn and touch the club record for games won in the Champions League group stage.

But PSV Eindhoven wanted differently. The evening’s insignificant match ended 1–1.

The fairly sleepy first half perked up with a few minutes left until the break.

Reiss Nelson and Cedric Soares combined skillfully on the right wing. Nelson played in for Eddie Nketiah, whose low shot near the post rewarded the Premier League club.

Yorbe Vertessen equalized at the beginning of the second half. PSV then hit the post and Arsenal had a goal ruled out for offside.

More was at stake in the meeting between Lens and Sevilla. Przemyslaw Frankowski gave Lens the lead midway through the second half but veteran Sergio Ramos equalized from the penalty spot.

Sevilla had needed a winning goal to reach third place in the group and play in the Europa League play-offs.

Instead, Angelo Fulgini sent in 2–1 for Lens in the sixth extra minute.
