Niras has been receiving 69 million euros per year for years for the remediation of the former Eurochemic factory in Dessel and decommissioned installations of the SCK CEN research center. According to Niras, this will require 1.15 billion euros over the next five years, or 229 million per year.
“There are currently no problems with safety, but something has to be done and better sooner than later,” Niras spokesperson Sigrid Eeckhout said in the newspaper. There are also concerns about the condition of some installations, some of which date back to the 1950s.
