In the Polish Sejm, a deputy grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed it into the foyer. For what?

On December 12, in the Sejm of Poland, a deputy from the far-right “Confederation” Grzegorz Braun grabbed a fire extinguisher and extinguished the Hanukkah candles in the foyer of the Sejm. And then he attacked a woman taking part in the ceremony.

The deputy himself did not explain his actions. But his colleagues decided that the act could be classified as a crime motivated by xenophobia.

However, the leadership of the faction did not support his actions. “I condemn the actions of Grzegorz Braun. “I will take further steps in this matter in the near future,” wrote Confederation co-chairman Slawomir Mentzen more than an hour later, referring to the event involving Grzegorz Braun in the Sejm.

Deputy Brown’s rally in the parliamentary corridor took place around 17:00. “An incredible scandal. Deputy Grzegorz Braun extinguished the Hanukkah menorah with a fire extinguisher,” wrote Virtual Poland journalist Patryk Michalski, who witnessed the incident on the X website.

The Presidium of the Seimas decided to impose a fine on the deputy for playing with a fire extinguisher. He was punished by deprivation of half his salary for three months and his entire deputy stipend for six months.

“This is the maximum punishment we can impose,” said Marshal Szymon Holownya. He emphasized that the presidium “had no doubt about punishing Brown.”
