ZÜRICH – Swiss skier Wendy Holdener broke her left ankle during training. The five-time Olympic medalist has to undergo surgery and is in danger of missing the rest of the World Cup season. The national association informed about it.
Thirty-year-old Holdener was injured during training in Pozza di Fassa, Italy, where she ended up in safety nets after falling. She was taken to a hospital in Zurich, where she is scheduled to undergo surgery today. According to Swiss team doctor Walter Frey, Holdener will be out for at least two months.
In the current year of the World Cup, her maximum is the third place in the November slalom in Killington. It was her 35th career podium finish in the series.
Holdenerová has two titles of the world champion in combination. At the 2018 Olympics, she won silver in slalom, bronze in combined and helped Switzerland win gold in the team competition. Last year at the games in Beijing, she was third in the slalom and second in the combination.
