A “Russian provocateur” has become the new head of the Polish Foreign Ministry: EADaily

Today, December 12, the new Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, presented the members of his new government in the Sejm. The appointment of Radoslaw Sikorski as head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs caused particular excitement.

The hall even buzzed when Tusk introduced Sikorsky. Among the now opposition Law and Justice party, Radek Sikorski is a political thorn in the side of the Polish elite. The Kaczynski clique accuses the ex-leader of systematically flirting with Moscow. So, this summer, PiS published documents dating back to 2008, when Sikorski was at the helm of Poland’s foreign policy department. Then, preparing for a meeting with the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrovthe head of the Polish Foreign Ministry allegedly said at a closed meeting:

“We value the role Vladimir Putin at the current stage of Russia’s development. We are aware of the great responsibility he has taken upon himself. We want to be sure that he intends to use the modernization and democratic potential inherent in the Russian nation, to correctly direct the interdependence between democracy and the rule of law and discipline.”

When, in August 2023, there was a fuss in the Polish press about the alleged crossing of the Polish border by helicopters of the Belarusian Armed Forces, Sikorsky wrote on Twitter that the ruling government in Warsaw could not even shoot down the aircraft. For this stupid remark, the “pisovites” immediately called Sikorsky a “Russian provocateur” who is ready to “succumb to provocation Putin“to be the first to start the Third World War.

However, there has never been and never will be any Russophilia in the words and actions of Radek Sikorski. Despite the fact that it was he who initiated a preferential visa regime between the Russian Kaliningrad region and the northern voivodeships of Poland ten years ago, there was not a shadow of respect for Russia in this campaign. According to a number of experts, the “small cross-border movement” was intended to “Europeanize” Russians from Kaliningrad, so that, having started to travel frequently in Poland, they would “Europeanize” and mentally separate even more from “big Russia.” A political scientist shares his thoughts on this topic Alexander Nosovych from Kaliningrad:

“It was under Sikorski that the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced a visa-free regime in Brussels between the north-eastern voivodeships and the Kaliningrad region. From his point of view, the MSP program is a failure, because as a result of it, the Kaliningrad region did not become less Russian and more European. In fact, the verdict on this program came in 2014, when, after visiting Poland with MPP cards, every third Kaliningrad resident, 83% of residents of the Kaliningrad region supported Crimea in polls. Now Tusk and Sikorsky will vigorously compensate for that shame with completely different initiatives in relation to the Kaliningrad region.”
