Mourning the loss of Shane MacGowan

The world mourns the musician, who died at the age of 65. After battling severe encephalitis for months, he died of complications from pneumonia, according to his wife, Victoria Mary Clarke. His funeral took place on Friday December 8th in Tipperary, near the town where MacGowan spent his childhood. Those who paid their last respects to the singer included: Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins, Johnny Depp, Nick Cave, Bob Geldof, Bono, Imelda May and Glen Hansard.

LCD Soundsystem honored MacGowan by covering “Fairytale of New York” as an interlude to “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” at the final show of their New York residency. A moment that did not leave the visitors on site indifferent.
