Jakarta – Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip, Palestine does not necessarily destroy the faith and piety of Palestinians. This also attracted the interest of the world community in studying Islam, the religion adhered to by the majority of Palestinians, and even decided to convert to Islam.
One of them is Spain. This was revealed by the Chairman of the Islamic Community in Spain and the Granada Mosque Foundation, Umar del Pozo.
Reported Anadolu Agency, Tuesday (12/12/2023), del Pozo revealed that at least mosques in the southern Andalusia region receive one to two residents who convert to Islam or convert to Islam every week.
“Perhaps Europeans are starting to see the truth for the first time,” he said.
On the other hand, said del Pozo, the suffering experienced by Palestinians has increased local residents’ sympathy for Muslims. Especially for those who have studied Islam.
“They saw Israel’s attacks and lies. As a result, they began to ask more questions in their minds and those of the people around them,” said del Pozo.
del Pozo added that the determination and struggle of Palestinians to defend their ‘home’ adds a spiritual aspect that invites curiosity and sympathy for local residents.
“This is how people get to know Islam,” he explained.
This man also explained that the level of attendance of pro-Palestinian rallies in Granada was quite high. On that occasion, he admitted that many local residents asked him to study Islam.
“We also explained what was happening in Palestine to our Christian neighbors. They asked questions and tried to learn more about Islam during the action,” he explained.
“We can say that (Islam) is getting more attention. This is not only in Granada, (in) all of Europe it is also getting attention (with) increasing voices on this issue,” he continued.
This was also experienced by Nahuel Calderon. This man from Granada admitted that he decided to convert to Islam recently.
Previously, he studied Islam from his lover. “I can say that I found more inner peace, and live a better life now,” said the 26-year-old.
For information, Granada has a Muslim community of almost 37,000 people, including 4,000 Spanish citizens who converted to Islam and their third generation children.
Nearly 3 million people live in Spain, most of whom live in Catalonia, Valencia, Andalusia and Madrid. They come from various countries such as Morocco, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Senegal and Algeria.
