Jeroen Krabbé says he has never had star appeal. The 79-year-old actor and artist starred in several major Hollywood films around the 1980s, where he saw that behavior a lot around him.
“I have a very down-to-earth wife, very down-to-earth children,” Krabbé says in conversation with Veronica Superguide. “They were also often present on the set at that time, anywhere in the world. Then we just had fun together, as a family.”
“It is also my own attitude that keeps me with both feet on the ground,” thinks Krabbé, who will appear in the rom-com from this week Take me with you is visible. “You concentrate on your script, you learn your lines, you talk to the director, to the other players, you rehearse and you do it.”
Krabbé starred in the Bond film, among others The Living Daylights in The Prince of Tides. “I’ve worked with American actors where I thought, ‘You’re just not worthy of being the star,’” says the actor and artist.
“But it’s not my job to say that to someone like that. In America, actors and actresses are the royals of that country. And the higher you go, the crazier they behave. Because everyone accepts that strange behavior.”
Krabbé does not want to reveal the names of rude American actors. Well, who remembers him positively: “At the very top is Harrison Ford, he is one darling. Such a terribly nice man. He doesn’t think highly of himself at all.”
